The view from that south side of Lake Elmer Thomas always draws me back. It’s a place where the prairie meets the mountains in a way that just feels…right. That late afternoon light, catching the water and turning it to molten gold – I try to capture that feeling, that moment of grace, with every click of my shutter. These Oklahoma landscapes hold a quiet power, don’t they? The lake itself seems almost fjord-like, nestled between those rolling hills – a reminder of nature’s artistry and boundless creativity. There’s a stillness here too, a peace that settles over the soul, washing away the worries of the day.
I’ve always felt drawn to these places, seeking solace and inspiration in their quiet beauty. These Oklahoma landscapes hold stories within them — tales of those who came before, facing hardship with grit and determination. The land speaks of resilience – a characteristic woven into the very fabric of this prairie heaven. Watching those white wildflowers bloom along the shoreline, mirrored perfectly on the still water, I’m reminded that beauty persists even in the face of adversity—a testament to the enduring spirit of Oklahoma and its people.
It’s a privilege, really—to witness these moments, to capture them and share them with others. To show folks what lies just beyond their doorsteps—a place where the sky meets the water in an explosion of color, where time seems to slow down, and a quiet sense of wonder fills the heart. I just hope my photographs convey even a small measure of that feeling – a glimpse of the grace that surrounds us every day here in Southwest Oklahoma.
